im gonna try out for volleyball next year in high school. now im going to a private school and there isnt alot of competition to make the team. im gonna kinda act like i've played before (but im not gonna lie or anything). i have played and i know how to, i was a manager of the team last year so i have played before. i was just wondering if they ask what position i play what should i say? im about 5'. i was thinking maybe libero (cuz im not great at serving), setter, or (what's the real name for the position?) the (short) people that stand away from the net where once it goes over the net they hit it up for the setter to get.

what do you think i should say and what is that position i didnt know? (above)

thanks

  1. setter, or middle back. Middle back is the one in the middle of the court (NOT setter)...

I play volleyball for my Middle School team I'm 5'3-5'4. I play right

    back and left front

  2. if this is your first time playing, just say your a passer and if you really want to be libero, you can just work your from there. if youre a passer, you will get a lot of work on digging and passing, which is what a libero needs to know. i personally am an outside hitter, and know how important it is to have a good back row. if we miss a block, its up to the back row to save it and give us a chance at getting the point.

  3. the problem is the libero or the setter have to be specialists outside i think would be easiest to start at. or practice passing untill you get good at it. but you can tell the coach you don't know yet but your hoping to find out or somthing like that. don't say setter cus your going to look stupid if you can't set.

  4. well you could tell them that you havent been in a set position before and you play all the way around. but they will definately be able to tell that you havent set before. it is called setter but sometimes in younger teams its right front because they havent started complecated plays yet.

but my best advice is tell them that you havent played competitively before because if you tell them that youve played say left or something then they might think that your just not that good since you havnt actually played that spot before. whereas if you admit your a nuby they will cut you some slack. anyway good luck

    hope i could help

  5. Your choices are:

    Outside Hitter

    Middle Blocker/Hitter

    Setter

    Rightside Hitter

    Libero

    Defensive Specialist.

I play junior olympic volleyball, and can knock someone over with my serve, and I am only 5 foot 4 inches. I suggest you be either outside hitter, or defensive specialist.

  6. Well what you need to do is to figure out which one you are the best at!! No matter what you choose it is going to take work; you are not going to get it your first time!! I would start out with passing or libero both of those you can be short in!! But it dose not really matter how short you are as long as you are good!! I would not say setting either; a lot of people look at setting as really easy, but people need a news flash it is not!! The best answer I can offer you is that you find out what you are best at! Oh and just to let you know MISHA rules have been changed to where the libero can serve now, and the person that passes to the setter is a passer!!

Good Luck! I hope I helped

  7. i think you should ready your hands and bend your back and knees a little, andtry to be concentrated of hitting the ball but don't get the ball when they are closer to your other team mates cause you will look like a ball hugger

  8. well I LOVE PLAYING SETTER!!! but you have to play setter on the front row and people on the front row usually have to be pretty tall (i'm 5'6''). everybody rotates to the front eventually, so i dont see why the coach would ask you that...but if he does say that 'i usually play on the back row'...or 'i'd like to play libero'

just say what you feel like saying...do what you want...I HOPE THIS HELPED THOUGH!!!!! =-D
