Question:

Volleyball practices...?

I'm going to try out for the volleyball team as a freshman, and before that they have practices that you can go to if you want to work on everything before school starts. What should I bring and wear to the practices? Should I bring knee pads and stuff?

Also, if I started working out a lot, how long will it take before I see results?

Thanks for answers!

  1. You should definitely bring knee pads. You can play the hardest you can with them but if you don't have them you'll be concerned about hurting yourself the whole time and won't want to dive for balls. You should wear a t-shirt that isn't too heavy, sports bra (or two, depending on your size), spandex (with no underwear is the most comfortable for me because thongs cause irritation and underwear have lines but that's up to you), knee pads, long tube-like socks (to wipe your shoes on if they get dirty on the bottom and lose their grip, and tennis shoes with good ankle support. You may also want to bring a little bag of some sort or purse to hold your cell phone, keys, water bottle, etc. so no girls on the team you don't know get tempted to steal it because your phone is laying out by itself. You should also bring a bottle of water, you're going to need it and it's easier than going to the water fountain and waiting in line or not getting the cold water from it lol. Lastly, I am not sure how your school is run but if you know athletes need physicals and waivers, you should get a physical at a doctor's office or general care center and have your parents sign a waiver and have it ready to give to the coach because some won't let you play at all without both already turned in. If you start working out with weights as opposed to working out against your own body's weight (like push-ups, sit-ups, etc.), you should do it every other day or if you do it every day, don't work the same thing. One day do all arms, then the next day just legs or else you might get injured from overwork and not see the best results possible. The rest period is what builds muscle because working out tears them down and the rest builds them stronger. I usually see results in a week or less. You should definitely go to those practices though, I can't tell you how beneficial they are and how much of a headstart you get. Good luck.

  2. good luck on trying out for the team, i would advise going to the practices before school starts, to get a head start on the basics. for practice, it depends on the school, but usually just sport shorts, they can be short like to the middle of your thigh or to your knee, it doesn't matter, if you're a freshman, you might want pads for your knees cuz you won't be accustomed to the drills and might fall sometimes, after a while if you continue playing you'll learn what you need to know and be able to improve on your skills, and you might not need knee pads as much. those are pretty much the only kind of pads you need tho. wear a sports bra and a T-shirt, don't wear tank tops or spaghetti straps or tight shirts you would wear to school, wear something you can move in, cuz it'll get sweaty, trust me. to get in shape, running is a good thing to get your stamina up, and also, jump rope ALOT, it will strengthen your legs and aid you in your hits because your vertical will be higher. good luck on the team and push yourself, and run to where you need to be during practice, it makes the coach happy to see people hussling up to do what they're supposed to....
