Volleyball problems ?

so here's the problem: i'm a freshman this year and i tried out for the volleyball team. i already had a year of club volleyball under my belt so i felt ready for tryouts. i did my best at the tryouts and i was pretty sure i'd make the freshman team. well today i found out i didn't. basically only tall girls (even if they weren't that great) and outstanding normal sized girls made the team. all the short girls like me (im like 5"2 or somthing), even who had good skills and the girls who were playing for the first time were placed on a different team. after practice today i asked the coach why i was placed on the beginner's team. she said that she didnt feel like i listened to her, that i needed to practice skills other than passing (my specialty), and i needed to become a leader on the beginners team to prove that i deserved to be on the better team. at least she said i had potential. well, its going to be easy improving whatever i am "lacking" with my older sister and "fix" my listening skills (i actually am a good listener...im the one usually being vented to).so now, my question, does anybody have any good advice as to how to become this leader captain person? ive never been one before, i know it cant be that hard, but any advice would be great. thanks in advance.

  1. well i have 6 years of club experience under my belt and i have the same problem

a good volleyball player has to be consistant in all positions. even though passing is the most important part of the game other skills should be practiced too.

the leadership role just proove yourself a good player and help out those that need help. don't worry bout the height factor if you beleive you can do anything

    are you libero?

    also what club?

  2. To me a good leader is someone who always encourages their teammates.  I look for someone that is always talking and pushing others to work hard.  If someone makes a bad pass, let them know that it is okay and that they can get the next one.  I would keep the actual advice to a minimum (you don't want to look too bossy) unless it is brief...ex. "Don't worry, just get behind the next one."  If someone makes a mistake go give them a high five and some reassurance.  TALKING is key, let everyone know where serves and hits are going.  Lead team cheers, get girls to meet in the middle, or get the girls fired up in other ways.  Good luck!  I hope this helps, you sound like you've got some heart!
