if you play club you will prob. make the team!

  2. I have almost the same problem as you do. For a while, my spot on my highschool's varsity team was pretty much guaranteed and now my coach is brining in new girls that will play my spot and I feel threatened that I'm not needed or wanted. What ya gotta do is just let go, release. Stop thinking about IF you don't make the team. You've lived your life and been able to breathe before playing volleyball so if you don't get picked, you won't die. That's how I try to think of it but easier said than done. It's a big disappointment and self esteem crusher when that sort of thing happens. But really, I had one day of total sadness and depression about my team. I loafed around all day, thinking about volleyball, feeling bad for myself, thinking about quitting the team if I'm not important and then got up the next day, went to practice and played one of the best days of volleyball I've had in the whole 4 years I've been playing. I don't know if it's coincidence or not but try it. Let it all fall into place. Just relax. Stop thinking about volleyball and the what-if's and convince yourself that even if you don't get on this team, you have 3-4 years ahead of you of volleyball and so much room to improve I'm sure so you should be happy you even have the chance to be a frshman on varsity and such. Sorry if this didn't help, thought it might since I feel the same, like volleyball was the one stable thing and now it's not. Since you said you guess you're pretty good though, sounds like you do have confidence so go ahead and tell yourself you can compete with these girls, you deserve a spot just as much as they do, they aren't gods and you're gonna get one of those spots. Just take a break and when tryouts/practice come, work extra hard even if you feel like you're gonna die and it will pay off, I bet you'll make the team and you're worrying for nothing. If volleyball has been your stability, I'm sure it still will be you just have to give it time and get the kinks worked out. With my team, I felt ditched and thought of quitting if they don't need me but then I was like "you know what, scew that, I've paid my dues and I'm a good and much-needed player, i'll wait it out and let the coach figure it out for herself that she does need me on this team and if she decides not, then I had fun playing while it lasted." Good luck, don't worry yourself too much.

P.s. About the relaxing thing, I was in a group that big and felt so threatened like I wasn't good enough and when you lose confidence in yourself, it's like it blocks your body too and no matter how good you were, you can't play as well as you did so find a way to just chill and have fun with it and let your mind let go and then your body will open up and you'll play an awesome game.
