  1. everyone has great tips and i've been playing for 6 years so i can add on to these from my experience.

passing (i'm a libero so this is my fav):

you can hold your hands whichever way works for you just as long as your fingers arent crossed because they could break.. try to get the palm over fist thing down because thats the fastest & most accurate way.

never swing your arms, on free ball passes or lofty balls it's sometimes hard not to but try to push with your legs, not your arms. this will help the ball go where you want.

STAY LOW. this is the #1 thing that a lot of people miss but it's also the easiest. i always touch the floor when getting ready to dig. it reminds me to stay low and helps me get touches on a lot of balls that iwouldn't have before. when you get low though be careful not to sit back on your heels, stay on the balls of your feet up by your toes.

on serve recieve there are a couple tricks i use. one is to imagine the ball is going to bounce through your legs when you pass it, this will get you lined up directly with the ball and it keeps it inside your body so theres less chance of shanking it. if it's a top spin serve (jump serves) STAY LOW. all you need to do is scoop under the ball and get it up, don't swing your arms- one coach told me to "cushion the ball like an egg". if it's a float serve, watch the bottom of the ball as it comes over. if these tricks don't work, try watching the seams of the ball as it's coming. this will naturally make your body move to the ball and help get a pass up.

setting: use your legs to help get the ball where you want to go. also, make sure your hips are facing the target that you're setting to. i dont know if anyone told you the superman finish? after you set the ball your hands should shoot out into "superman" hands. thats more for an outside set because it pushes the ball farther and faster. if you get really good, try to jump set everything- it will confuse the other teams defense because they can't read where you're sending the ball. if you have to move to get to the ball (not all passes are right to target) follow this rule: moving forward, set backward; moving backward, shoot forward. i hope that makes sense.

hitting: i am absolutely not a hitter but i know the basics. do the left-right-left approach (if you're right handed) with a slow-fast-fast tempo. and aim to hit the ball in the center of your palm and SNAP your wrist  down so the ball gets some top spin on it.

for back-row attacks: i recommend a 4-step approach because the sets aren't always very accurate. take a first mini step with your right foot to point in the right direction, then a normal 3-step (left-right-left) approach.

serving: for an overhand serve you should try to only take one step. stand with your feet together and your weight on your right foot. then throw the ball up and step with your left foot. the less movements you make, the smaller chances for mistakes. if you're thinking about jump serving, do it just like a back row attack so think the toss should be about the height of what you would want a back row attack to be.

i know that was a lot of info but i hope it helps in some way! i'm not really sure how advanced you are but good luck :)

  2. Spike: For a spike, I would start an approach with your left foot (3 steps) Then spring-load, jump high and swing, let your arm stretch up when you hit it, do not hit it any lower than arms length above your shoulder!!! (I had a problem with that in my turny...)

Serve (O): When you're throwing the ball up for over. just make sure you step forward and go get the ball dont just let it come down (you go get it), then snap your wrist forward and watch it go over the net and in the court! (Im right handed, so it might be different for u if you're a lefty!)

Serve (U): There's a lot of ways to underhand serve, but I find it easiest when you have a hand platform (when you have your hand in a fist, but with your thumb to the side of your index finger) Then hold the ball out in front of you (whatever you do, DO NOT throw it up into the air and shove your fist into it, that is a sure way to get it in the rafters or in the net.)

and then make a scooping motion with your arm and have contact with the ball on your "platform"

  3. Find some classes and try to Jonie.

  4. bump set spike serve and sorry to say this but practice

  5. Serving: Get down low, swing your arms a few times, then hit it HARD...Bumps: Just keep your eye on the ball and I would reccommend wearing like sweat bands if the ball it too hard and just do your best.....Spikes:Just jump for it if you don't get it too bad it's ok...Sets: Hit the ball with the tip of your fingers and push up on it with all your strength HOPE THIS HELPS :D

  6. focus on your goal and try out for clubs, go to clinics, and go that extra step. just work on your game and remember all the little things count like running, conditioning, and individual workouts. meaning playing at your house against the wall or with a neighbor. it will help you a lot
