Question 1: Serving problem!!! I want to serve deeper serves or serves like what my coaches call, the "flat" serve, where the serve does not stop in speed, but is low and fast. How can I serve like that?

Question 2: How do you return a "flat" serve?

Question 3: How to improve your reaction time?

Question 4: How to tell if the ball is going over the net or not?

Question: 5: How to tell when to use a spike?

Question 6: My coach says to run to the ball and move more, but should I get out of my territory?

Question 7: Should I pump my arms to reach a ball quicker or should I position my arms into a bump and run to the ball?

Question 8: I've heard that you can get a smiley face volleyball cheap for around 8 dollars at Wal-Mart. Is this true? If it is, can you tell me which Wal-Mart, and the price? And is that volleyball good for practising at home?

  1. 1. It would help just to be able to serve over the net first. Don't worry about it unless you can consistently get it over.

    2. Stay low!

    3. Practice, practice, practice

    4. Experience mainly

    5. When the setter sets you the ball (more specifically, you start your approach when the ball is at its peak)

    6. I mean, if the ball is coming straight to your teammate, don't run over there and steal it. But you NEED to move around! Be aggressive and go for the ball. And if someone shanks the ball, RUN after it! Don't just stand in your spot and say that it wasn't in your territory and there was no way you could have gotten there. So basically, don't steal the ball if it's already headed right at someone, but don't just stand in your "spot" and wait for the ball to come right to you, because it WON'T.

    8. True. Actually, there are some balls at walmart that are just for backyard ball (you know, the kind you play at picnics with the family-breaking the rules, playing sloppy and however you want to, etc.) and they will be lighter and feel more like toys.  I have a Baden ball I use at home. Tachikara is a very good brand to go with

  2. Answer 1:  in order to serve a "flat serve" you need to wait until the perfect time. It shouldn't be too high because then when you hit it it will just go up. I usually wait until it is about right above my head. if that is too low and makes it go into the net try a little higher. and to serve deeper you just need to put more force behind it. try taking an extra step or two into the ball. but be careful. you can put too much force behind it  and it will end up going out. this has happened to me before.

Answer 2:You need to stay low in order to return the flat serve. Be down and ready with your feet shoulder length apart. do your left-right approach into the ball and don't swing your arms. rise up into the ball and try to get it to your setter. DONT SET THE OTHER TEAM! if you do they can smack it right back down into your face.

Answer 3: You need to be able to percieve the depth of the ball. It will help a lot especially if you are in the front row. use the left-right foot approach when you think the ball is coming to you. if you are in the front row and you think the ball should go to the back row do not duck! open up so the person behind you knows to go for it. communication is KEY in volleyball.

Answer 4: Being able to tell if the ball is going over the net or not is very hard. if you think it is going to be close just prepare for a tip or a dink. It is a lot easier and safer to do this just to be sure it's going over. just don't get caught in the net.

Answer 5: You should only use a spike when the ball is well above your head. Most of the time you need to use a spike when the setter sets the ball to you. and only if you are in the front row.

Answer 6: you should move to the ball. but dont move into someone else's territory. especially not the setter's. this could cause injuries and this would not be good.

Answer 7: In order to get to the ball faster you need to pump your arms then get into your bumping position. do not do the other it slows you down. just don't run half way across the court. that would be getting into the other ppl's way.

Answer 8: Yes there is a smiley face ball that is around 8 dollars at walmart but it is very cheap. I would go for a ball from d**k's sporting goods or a local sporting goods store. they aren't as cheap but they will survive longer than the walmart balls.

I sure do hope i helped.

  3. Answer 1- To serve a fast low serve you need to make sure you are contacting the ball as high as your arm can reach. make sure you throw the ball high enough, and then when you hit the ball your are should be almost straight up. and when you hit it, be sure to flick your wrist to give topspin, that will make it stay low and go faster.

Answer2- Make sure that you are right in front of the ball and your feet are pointing where you want the ball to go. and when the ball hits your arms it should be right in your target zone. (wrist to elbows) (inside of your arm)

Answer3- To improve your reaction time the best hting to do is to when the server on the other team is serving be bounceing on your toes, not like up in the air, just rocking back and forth, and be expecting the ball evertime. sit there and think the ball is comming to me.

Answer 4- you can't always tell weather or not the ball is going to go over, but expect it everytime. that way of you think it's not going to go over and it does you'll be ready.

Answer 5- When to use a spike you should be using a spike every time your team returns the ball. If the setter sets you the ball then slam it back over.

Answer6- Go for the ball, and if you see that someone has a better positon to get the ball let them get it. but if you can get to it and you see there not going to then GO! but remember to trust your team.

Answer 7- Usually pump your arms. and if you can't get them together in time one hand it or dive, pumping your arms will always get you there faster.

Answer 8- I don't really know. I would think you can get a volleyball at walmart, but i don't know if they have smileys or not, and i don't quite know the price...

    well good luck! =]]
