Volleyball: serving overhand PART 2!!?

Thanks to the awesome answer from stvenryn, and tossing the ball higher, I finally got my serve over!! I am SUPER happy about that!! It took me over a year to get this, so this a huge accomplishment, plus to try out for varsity you need an overhand serve, so this just made my day. However, there's a but. Of course there's a but, why else would I be posting a question? Anyhowwww.....

I got my serve over in practice today and my coach saw, and she's super proud of me because she knows that it's been hard for me. But she also told me I need more power in my serve, because it lands at about the attack line. I read about that flicking your wrist thing, but I have no idea how it works because I'm weird like that. When I try putting more weight in, I get frazzled and i totally mess up. So if anyone can give me suggestions with explanations on how to get more power in my overhand serve, that would be totally awesome.

THANK YOU!!!!!

  1. Here is an article on volleyball overhand serving that I found useful. Not quite sure if this is up to your level but give it try.

    Good luck with the serve.

  2. instead of having your hand flat try to make a cup with it.....................that one little thing made me one of the best servers on my travelling team.................good luck :-)

  3. Is your serve going high and short?  If it is, then your toss is just a little behind where it needs to be.  Try moving your toss forward about an inch.

Is your serve just going short?  Then your toss is probably either a little right or left of directly in front of your shoulder.

Practice your toss without hitting the ball.  You want to do 10, take a 1 minute break, do 10 and so on.  Do at least 100.  More if you have a chance.

  4. having a hard flat hand and stopping your swing right when you hit the ball make iit go farther and hitting the ball right infront of you will add more power..GOODLUCK!!

  5. ok. so you got the ball in the court but did u get it the back row because usually varsity players only do thet to soften their serve up because they serve too hard or too far. hope that answers your question.

  6. to get more power, try taking 2 steps before you serve instead of just a small one. also have a routine you do be4 u serve (like bouncing it a certain number of times) to get you ready. that always gives me the momentum i need. pretty soon, you'll have an amazing serve.
