Question:

Volleyball - serving?

My serves go over most of the time, but the problem is they either go lollipop, in a big arch and are easy to return or they or are fairly weak and straight to one of the front court players. How can I get more power? And how can i push them to back court?

Any suggestions or techniques?

  1. The thing that i gonna advice u is to watch on youtube of how they play volleyball or research something. It's really give u an idea.

  2. If your serves are weak, you just need to practice as often as possible.

If your serves aren't going where you want them to go, practice also helps.

In your case if your serves are making high arches, odds are that you're contacting the ball very high, and you should try contacting the ball, with your arm still fully extended, a little in front of you. Having a friend or coach watch you serve helps because even a friend who doesn't play volleyball can tell you where you're contacting the ball.

Also you need to make sure that you don't hurt your shoulder when you're serving. Trust me! One shoulder injury will effect your serving for a long time.

One more thing! Make sure you have your basic serve down solid before you worry about where the ball is going.

    Good Luck!

  3. My guess is that you are tossing the ball too far back in your body line.  Your hand is not reaching the point in front of you where your hand becomes perpendicular.  That causes you to lose power and the ball to lollipop.

Try tossing the ball about 4 to 6 inches further in front of you.  And do not panic and move your body farther forward so that you can hit the ball in the same position with your body.

Try your toss without hitting the ball.  See where it lands.  Now try to move that point about 4 to 6 inches further in front of your hitting shoulder.  Do 100 with the ball landing there.  Now try serving the ball.  Do 10 serves, take a 1 minute break, do 10 and so on.  If it going better, keep going.  If it is not working yet, move in to the 3 meter (10 foot line) and serve 10 over.  Move 1 step back and get 10 over.  And so on until you are serving from the back line.

You need to work on this every day.  If you can not work on your serve every day, work on your tosses.

    Good luck.

  4. if you are using the float serve, you should toss the ball backwards. practice your toss. start serving from the front of the court and eventually to the back. if still not bossible, i will advice you to use the 'stone' float serve and your serve will become stronger.
