Well, our setter is going to be on varsity, so i want to be setter. i can set and all and played the position once when she was out for an emergency. But what can I do to prepare myself for the position and being the setter.

thanks in advance!

  1. if you want to be the setter....you need to get together with all the hitters on the varsity and just set how you did when you stepped in....yall need 2 get used to each other......u need time to mold with the hitters timing......u r already half a setter because u cab pass....usually good setters can pass...hope u make varsity

  2. welcome in advance! =]]

    haha

okay well um, i play volleyball and one way to practice is to set it  to your self and keep it in the air..

  3. I am also wanting to work on setting i think getting like a couple inches away from a wall and just setting it against the wall multiple times at a fast rate like keep it going should help because it can be kind of hard to set by yourself because if you lie on your back you are pretty much just setting it in front of you because your arms arent high enough and if you dont really get what i'm saying about the wall thing watch the v-ball movie All You've got im pretty sure someone does it on their plus its an overall good movie GOOD LUCK!!!

  4. just set as much as you can for practice. i was a setter and i would just sit in my room and set it up and down. also, try practicing with a hitter and have someone throw you a pass. see how well you set the hitter up.

  5. Always square yourself to the outside pole that will make it much easier for you when there is a bad pass. Always talk to your hitters they can help. Dont forget the setter dump when you are front row it can throw the other team off and make it easier on your hitters. A quick offense is always more deceptive than a slow one. Run 1's 31's and shoots. Tandems can throw many inexperienced middle off. I find that if i have my middle running a 1 whenever I get a perfect/good pass my middle gets the balls sense I only get the perfect/good pass very rarely. My outside hitter is my "out" whenever there is a bad pass. If my outside hitter is ineffective I will go to my rightside hitter. When frontrow (assuming you are setting a 5-1) and the pass goes behind me and almost out of bounds instead of just the throwing the ball into the middle of the court attempting to set outside set your rightside hitter backrow(DBALL) and let him put it away for you. Jump setting when in front row is another dirty way to throw the other team off.

  6. A good exercise to strengthen your hands and fingers is to do repeated quick sets above your head, with a basketball instead of a volleyball.  When you go back to setting volleyballs, it'll be like cake.  Also, I would do exercises to improve your footwork and agility.  If you're unsure how to do so, talk to your coach or a trainer.

Most importantly, communicate.  Make sure everyone knows what is going on and make sure you're on the same page as your hitters.

  7. I am the setter for my university team so hopefully i can help lol

it is hard to practice to be a setter when you don't have a net or hitters to practice with, cause you need both to be able to adjust and become better, as long as you have soft hands and strong legs you will be fine, just try to handle a ball as much as possible with a friend or something

but once practices start you need to be mentally prepared...you need to know all of your hitters so that you know where they want to hit the ball...as a setter you are in complete control of the game, so you need to know who your best hitters are and when you need to use them

so when the practices start, this may sound wierd, but you need to study your teammates, you need to pay attention to any feedback they give you and apply it to when you set them

good luck, setter is a great position to play, it is not easy but it is very satisfying when your team is hitting well.

  8. it helps a lot to talk to your hitters about the set. have someone stay after practice to see where they want the ball to be set and practice setting them up. after you get better practice out of system sets.

dont forget to use your legs!
