Volleyball setting tips?

I'm doing intermeral volleyball this year with my friends, and they're really good will I stink. I got a good bunch better since it started, but I'm having a lot of trouble setting the ball, it never goes anywhere when I hit it. Thanks to my friends, we're in the championships on Wensday, but our tallest (and one of our best) players is leaving for England the night before, and I need to get better so I don't bring my team down. Any tips? Thank you so much!

  1. Try not to slap the ball, hit it with your finger tips. Don't set it too close to the net and not too close to the person you're setting it to. Also, set it high into the air so other players on your team will have a good chance of getting under the ball and bumping it or spiking it. Good Luck!

  2. I would help but were playing in that tourney and our star setter is leaving too.  So i will not help the competition except to square up and be parralell to the net.  Renember its ok to bump set if you stink the other way.  Just pass it to the 5 ft line or to the 10 ft line if it is a back row hitter

  3. ull pften hear the term, "see the ball in", its very helpfull, the the ball into ur hands between thumb and pointer finger, and then release, ull notice with very good setters that when they set the ball it makes almost no noise, for this reason make a consicence effort not to hit or slap at the ball

  4. Be confident and you'll do fine.  Remember, it's not only in your fingers.  Remember to use your legs too. Don't roll your hips forward unless you're doing a backward set.  Good Luck!!

Ask your coach for help too!!!

  5. Set the ball when it is above the neckline that is what my Coach said!!!!!

  6. Well, I've been in volly ball for 5 years, and what my coach told me was to USE YOUR FINGER TIPS!!! And, you know, put a little muscle into it too : )

  7. keep the ball in front of you. dont let it get above you or behind you bc then it will just flick of your fingertips.  always keep your fingers in front of you after you set, meaning dont flick them with the ball.  when the ball is coming bring your arms in with your hands in position and let the ball come to you and push ur arms back oout and flick your wrists a little. good luck!  hope you win.

  8. PUTT UR HANDS AND LIKE IF U WAS MAKING A GRIZZLY CLAW  AND TRY THAT

  9. try to make your hands into a claw like a tiger or a cat, then pounce after the ball. my teacher taught me that when i had one of the volleyball coahces as a gym teacher, and it really works. now i'm playing volleyball for my them next year..... hopefully!!

  10. When setting in volleyball you need to remember to push the ball out towards  your spiker!!!!!!  WHen you set your hands should make the shape of a triangle!!!! practice makes PERFECT

  11. hands close loose fingers and push upward

  12. Aside from all the advice on hand positioning, Take a v'ball and just practice against a wall. Try and have the ball hit the exact same spot every time. if you can hit the same spot or within a few inches of the spot 20 times in a row, you are good to go. Good Luck.

  13. if ur problem is distance than

    1. make sure your feet R set and planted

    2. put ur hands so they will shape around the ball and keep them strong but loose... make sure the ball will not go through your hands

    3. bend your knees and put your hands directly above your forhead

4.watch the ball enter your hands

    5. push the ball up and out using your arms and your  legs

    Good Luck !!! kick butt!!!

  14. try setting some setting tainer volleyballs . they are heavier than then the usa official weight so you will build your wrist and fringer strength.  bye wensday u will be setting high and pushing the ball out just fine

  15. see for any game the way to get bettr is practice n the way u do it does matter n settin the bal is as delicate as a surgeons job k u need to work lik hel to get to that perfection level k ny how the quikest way to do it is by standin infront of a tall wall. face the wall catch the ball right over ur head stretch ur legs a litl apart, bend ur knew a littl bend ur bak a litl n then bend ur elbows n throw the bal on to the wal n catch n throw n so on slowly reduce the time that  hold the ball but take care that ur palms point each other k that is realy gud for the control.u can master settin technique with this proces in jus a week or so k keep tryin i kno that u wil get it.n there are no rules that u shud only use these fingers n al but tak care that u dnt hold the bal for a longer time n the bal shud not rol in ur hands n stuf k all the best

  16. Hi.

I got taught to use thumb and first to fingers to push the ball.its a really hard to say on here but if u want i can get it on video ( if i could be bothered)

  17. Your hands should be in the shape or form of the ball when they are drawn above your head.  Your pointer fingers and thumbs should create a diamond shape that you can look through at the level of your forehead.  You want to contact the ball with all your fingers.  When setting the ball, be sure that your body is square and facing the direction you want the ball to go.  Also, be sure to use your legs for power as well as your arms.  When you release the ball, extend your hands out and freeze them for the follow through until you get used to it.  When I was young, I use to pick a spot on the wall or use a bball hoop and set to it over and over again.  Practice makes perfect!

  18. Make your hands in a triangular window above forehead and push upwards. Make sure you don't touch it with your palms or you will get called for a carry.
