Volleyball teams getting ready for 2011 FIVB Men’s World Cup
Men’s volleyball teams all around the world are getting ready for another scrimmage on the centre court as the 2011 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup is scheduled to run from November 20 to December 4 in Japan. A total of twelve teams from across the globe
will be on board to compete for the title.
This year, the FIVB World Cup has an additional feature. The event will mark the first step in the qualification process for the upcoming Olympic Games in London. Three of the best teams in the competition will get the tickets to 2012 London Olympics. Great
Britain has already secured a spot as host nation, while three top teams of FIVB World Cup will also join them.
The grid of 12 teams for the 2011 FIVB World Cup was finalised through different continental competitions, where teams qualified for the competition either as the champions or as one of the four runners-up from around the world. Furthermore, two teams qualified
for the World Cup on wildcards. The participants of the competition are as followed:

United States Cuba Italy Serbia China Iran Egypt Russia Poland Japan Brazil Argentina
Initially, the teams will be divided into two groups and tournament will be opened with the preliminary round-robin. Afterwards, three more rounds of the game will be followed. On the whole, the competition will cover its length in four rounds. Each team
will get the chance to play against remaining 11 teams in the competition. Each win or loss will affect the points for any team. The final ranking will be determined by total points gained.
Brazil and Russia will enter the competition as the top contenders and pre-favourites. Brazilian players have won the last two World Cups in 2003 and 2007. Moreover, they hold the distinction of being the second team in volleyball history to win back-to-back
titles after the former Soviet Union, which secured the top slots in 1977 and 1981, along with 1965 and 1991. Hence, Brazil will be amongst top teams of the competition. They are all set to give out their best performance and catch the limelight.
Likewise, Russian team is enjoying top form and looking to take back lost pride. So far, Russia is ahead of Brazil with five gold medals. It will surely be interesting to watch these two teams vying for the gold medal and Olympic spot. Check back for latest
news regarding the event.
