  1. Well you can work on your vertical, but you would probably will play as a libero in the back row.

  2. this site should help a lot!!

    good luck!

  3. work on your passing a ton. so if you get really good you wont have to play front court. insted you can just be in the libero position.

  4. Don't jump when the hitter does.  Time your takeoff so its as they are contacting the ball.  It allows the time it takes for them to hit and you reach your highest point as the ball reaches the net.  The farther back they are off the net, the longer you need to wait.  Its all just timing that comes with practice.

  5. From experience, I know that the shorter you are the more technically sound you have to be.  That said the best way to block is to watch the hitter, they will tell you everything you need to know if you read their shoulders.  Also, its not all about size.  If your can time your jump properly and get over the net.... I mean really get over the net not just to it, you will be a good blocker.  A big block does nothing if its not over the net.

  6. well i'm really short under 5ft and i play on my high school volleyball team. if you are that short than you should ask your coach if you could be the libero. (back row player always)

  7. ok first of all, your coach shouldn't be putting you on front row if you're in high school...its SOO much easier for a short person to play defense because you don't have to go down as far to get to the ground.  but if you have to block, bend your legs as far as you can go and push as hard as you can and when you clear the net bend your wrist slightly and SPREAD YOUR FINGERS!  you'll cover more area if you do that and it should look something like this..vvvvvv

the girl on the left is doin' it right

  8. work on your vertical...strengthen your calfs and thighs...do squats, box jumps, calf raises.

theres also something called a soft block...usually if you cant get over the net you just do that and soften the ball instead of completely blocking it from coming over...

  9. Just remember to tuck your head into your arms and extend your arms as far as you can! Build up your vertical by going to strength training or even just jump roping at home. When you're short, you gotta work twice as hard :/

  10. First, your coach MUST notice that your under 5 feet, tell him/her that you think someone else should go block and you could just ask to be a libero (back row-err ha ha) and just bump up all the balls, unless you really are a good hitter, then you should just not block and ask one of your teammates to block for you.

  11. You could try working on your leg muscles. I've seen short players that have really high vertical leaps. Or you can just concentrate on your defense and become libero/backliner. You can train your vertical leap by strengthening your leg muscles and practicing the blocking jump everyday..
