  1. They will run conditioning drills to see who is in shape.

They will run volleyball skill drills to see who can serve, pass, set, spike and block.

You should try out.  You do not want to be hearing about how much fun your team is having on the way to the state championships and you did not even try out.

Take a positive attitude with you.  You should hustle all the time.  If the coach corrects you, your response should be "thank you, I will work on that" and mean it.  You should call every ball loudly that you are intending to play.  You should encourage your team mates.  You should never say anything negative at the tryouts.  If you want to say something negative about anyone at the tryouts, wait until you get home.  You never know who is listening.  And how anxious they will be to tell the coach.

If it is a decision for the coach between several players with roughly the same skills, they will choose the best attitude.  Actually, the coach would choose someone with a better attitude with slightly less skills and a teachable attitude.  The coach can always teach skills easier that teaching a positive attitude.

I know this is very easy to say, but try not to be nervous.  If you get too nervous, you will not make the team.  Relax and breathe.  Have FUN and it will show the coach that you have the right attitude.

    Good luck.

  2. don't be nervous. Go in with confidence. Even if you don't have the most amazing skills, some things that coaches look for (if this is your type of personality, great) are communication, cheering, leadership, and effort. Go for every ball like it's the final point every time.

As far as what you will do, I'm not sure what kind of tryout it is but it ranges from testing your speed and jump, to simple drills testing passing, setting, and hitting. Good luck--and just have fun its an amazing sport

  3. I have so been there, in fact just last school year. If you love to play, then go for it. Practice spiking and setting and stuff at home, to get better. When you go to tryout, just give it your all, and don't be nervous. :)

  4. I play volleyball, so lemme give you some ensight here. They'll have you run some, to see what kind of endurance you have. Sometimes they will line up all the kids and have each one serve on at a time (pressure). There's always the bum, set, spike drill, and once they made us run up and down the court while passing the volleyball between two people (which is harder than it looks). Hope I helped, and good luck.

    Thx 4 the 2 pts.
