we have three teams at my school. and i was to JV obviously the middle level one. all the old frosh/soph girls (which are all freshmen) are going to be moving up to JV so i have to be able to beat out one of them in tryouts at least. so help please. i need all the tips i can get. drills, workouts, skills, ect.

  1. I'm on varsity at my school, and what they like is if you hustle for the ball, call it. Speaking up will get you very far, if you have an attitude, put it away. they don't like that

    just work hard.

Work on jumping, the higher the better i guess. JUst remember to turn towards the setter when your doing your approaches to the net. DO NOT TOUCH THE NET!!! have fun and when you pass,  Keep it low and precise. (this is in the defensive specialist perspective so...)

try working on different types of serving, like jump serve floater and remember to hit your spot on the court. Serving accurately will do some good, so try hitting all your spots.

just work hard and have fun good luck, any questions just email me if this give you my email address.

  2. I'm trying out for my school's JV team too. Except, we only have two teams, and you don't automatically move up just because you were on the school team the year before. Go to all the camps that are offered, try asking someone you know to pass with you and remember, at tryouts, really act like you want to be there, don't give up on the ball, even if you think you can't get it, if you still try, you'll either wow everyone by getting it, or you'll get brownie points for trying. Good luck!

  3. If your school offers a summer volleyball program or a volleyball class, definitely do those.  It helps you improve a lot as well as get to know the coach better.

  4. A trainer/friend once told me that coaches don't look for stamina/endurance during practice cause they know they can just train you during the season.

That aside, of course it's good to be in shape by the time season rolls around.  Coaches LOVE that, off-season training.

The camps would be great, considering you have no practice.  Other than that i'd just give you the advice...know the rules.  You don't wanna look stupid by watching a ball do something and not knowing if thats legal.  Secondly, NO EXCUSES.  it's a football thing, but it applies to every sport.  Don't give an excuse for a mistake, and don't give yourself an excuse for why you didn't get the ball, or why something hapened.

  5. Just be yourself. Our coach says that he is not looking for the best but he is looking for determination. If you're determined enough to learn the sport, then you're ready. He also said that skills are of no problem because skills can be taught. Hope I'd helped. God Bless!

  6. Umm well the first thing is to prepare for the tryouts. I would suggest some camps. Dont go to some camp thats like park district or anythings, go to one that will be a challenge for you and really work you till it hurts. Besides that I would do a lot of running and workouts to strengthen up your arms and legs (very important) Once the tryouts come i would say to just be that kid out on the court that the coach keeps seeing. Make sure you go for everything (never EVER stand there thinking someone else is going to get it- coaches HATE that) Also make sure your loud and calling Mine for everythings. Act really enthusiastic. Dont be afriad to get out there and show off your skills and dont be intimidated by the girls who were on it last year> Good luck!

  7. well try to fine tune your skills but the most impotant things your coach will be looking for is a good personality in the player.  try being a leader and positive all the time.  if your skills aren't good enough, try to show your coach that you could learn very fast and you have great potential.  goodluck

  8. Hi there.  You don't say how much volleyball experience you have,  but I think three things are going to help you:  actual time on the court, stamina, and enthusiasm.  Attend volleyball camp and/or clinics as  well as practicing ball handling on your own (bump-passing to yourself, setting) ... just getting as comfortable as you can handling the ball.

Then, actual playing time (which is what the camp and clinics can offer you).  Lastly, stamina.  Do you have the energy and enthusiasm to outlast your opponents during long matches?  Enthusiasm ... a positive attitude ... makes a huge difference to a coach.  Good coaches want players who really want to be out there, going for the ball, and who bring that enthusiasm to the rest of the team.  No one wants to be around players who are negative and who'll drag the other players down.

    Good luck!
