  1. when trying to control the ball off a hard serve or hit, make sure you are ready in a really low defense position (i assume you play DS) have your back straight, with your knees bent  and your elbows bent infront of your knees.  Keep your hands steady and aim your platform so you can pass to your fellow players. In other words, when youre down low in the defense position, you can get under the ball. When you do, make sure your arms are angled so you can bump it to a fellow player. Make sure your bump is controlled and bump it high so the setter can get to it in time.

Tipically, teams are looking for people who can play one position really well. Nevertheless, they also look at people who can transition from one position to the next. At tryouts, be sure when youre telling them which position you play.

As for setting, ive seen a lot of setters who dont hold their hands in the right positions. First of all, when setting a ball, you need your hands to be positioned right above your forehead. Your fingers need to be spread out, fingers firm. One way to check you are doing it correctly is to  go into your position and see if both your thumbs and pointer fingers  make the shape of a triangle while you set. Since girls dont have as much power as guys do in their arms, you need to use your 'core' or legs and abdomen when setting. Bend your legs and extend , which will help you get height on the ball. Its very important!

    hope this helps!

    good luck!!

  2. i'm not to good at seting myself but as far as serving goes for strength picture the one person/thing you hate the most and to get it over keep your eyes focused on the ball and for underhand don't look up stay low and hit the ball with  the padded part of your palm right in front of your wrist and don't wear bracelets or rings they just make it harder for you.

  3. Make sure your platform is straight when you pass. In other words, don't bend your elbows. Square yourself to the target (settter) and think about cushioning the ball. Use your legs to push the ball up and not your arms. On a hard serve you shouldn't have to push up too much to get it to the target.

For setting, keep your fingers strong. Point your thumbs downward like your going to gouge your eyes out. I know it sound weird but it works. You should also square yourself to the target and push with your legs.

    Good Luck at tryouts!

  4. Setting

    - Make sure that when you foolow through, don't have your thumbs facing the ceiling.

    - Footing should be left right

    -use your legs!!!!!!!!!!!111

    Recieveing hard serves

    -square up to your setter

-don't swing your arms, it's all in your legs.

-let the ball bounce off your arms and use your legs to guide it

-never back down from a hard serve, show them who's boss.

-get it high to the setter

-don't give the server any reason to serve it hard twards you again.

    Good Luck!!!!  Go Go Gadget!!!!!!!

  5. well what you need to remember when passing is

    1. keep your platform strong. if its not the ball will not bounce off properly.

    2. remember- you are not trying to move the ball but rather "direct the ball"

therefore you do not need to swing at the ball.

    3. To get that height you should be bent at the knees. when you pass you should unbend a little bit and shrug your shoulders up and toward the setter at the exact moment the ball hits your arms.

srry i cant help you very much at setting,. and id rather not tell you something that might mess you up. but i hope i helped some

  6. Okay...to control your bump off hard serves you must:

    1) move your feet so that you're taking the pass in front of you and in the center of your body!

    2) angle your pass towards the setter (but don't overdo it...just angle it enough so that it still goes up, but in the direction of the setter).

    3) strong arms so that you can control the ball...don't let the ball control you!

    4) freeze your platform towards where you want the ball to go

    5) just keep in mind that it's better to get the ball up and not towards the setter than a "bullet" shot right at the setter...just get the ball up!

Okay, to get better at setting:

    1) fast hands...for instance, when you see that you're going to set the ball...quickly bring your hands up to your hair-line, forming them in the shape of the volleyball (triangle shape).

2)strong finger-tips so that you can control the ball...(and so tha ball doesn't control you!)

    3) finish in a "W" form (your pointer fingers and thumbs should make the shape or a "W" after you set).

    4) Most importantly...you must have strong fingers...or the ball will not go where you want it to (and you could accidentally hurt yourself...if you don't have strong fingers...)

    Hope this helps! :-D
