I am trying out for JV and was told that both JV and varsity will have to run 2 miles for the tryouts. I need to be able to do this to make the team and i haven't been running at all this summer. The most i can run is about a 9-10 min mile and i don't have much time left. Any way to build up my endurance to be able to make the 2 mile run?

  1. all i can say is start to run right now and work on your breathing and leg exercises or he mit be trying to scare you to try to get less peopleto show up because you can only have 15 on a teamor a least on varsity.

  2. and you just found this out???? I'm hard pressed to believe that, but, be that as it may, you need to work up to that point. Start at a 1/4 mile then up it. Yes, i know time is of the essenses. YOu need to build up. No one can just go and run 2 miles right off the git go.

    that's my take.

  3. i just want to let you know that every club and college coach i have ever played for has told me NOT to run distances. running long distance conflicts with the muscles you train to help you jump high. i understad that this is what your coach expects, and this is probably just a method she uses to thin out the girls trying out, but dont worry too much about the mile once its over you probably wont have to do it again

  4. I would just keep telling yourself that you can do it. Just think of running a mile twice. You can do it.

  5. Run/cycle/swim to build up your stamana! Don't run 2 miles at once, run a mile and 1/4, then the next day run a mile and a 1/2.  You will be able to run two miles before you know it. Exersise all day!

  6. You don't have to run two miles with the same pace. Warm up, and set up a "goal" in about half mile and run it; slow down-adjust your breath, and set up another goal line and run it again... you will have more fun "achieving" your goals and making two miles' running an easy job.

By the way, I like the coach's style... he is looking for an experienced player who does his/her workout on a consistent basis, not by the order sheet from the coach or anything that can be built within couple weeks :)
