I want to play on my high school's JV volleyball team. I count myself as inexperienced. I am familiar though with setting, bumping, and spiking. I successfully mastered keeping a flat platform for bumping. Please PLEASE give me any tips!

  1. Well, that's good that you know all of that but I did notice that you didn't mention serving.  Work on your serving because that can either make you or break you.  Also (I tell this to everyone who asks these types of questions but it's true!) always have a good attitude, follow directions, and communicate well with others because the coaches don't see only your skills but the way you socialize and talk to them and other girls.  Good Luck and I hope this helps!

  2. u should be able 2 get into JV as long as ur at least coordinated. i would suggest just practicing at the beach until the tryouts so that u can easily be one of the top on JV & work ur way up so next year u can be on varsity.

  3. volleyball takes more than 2 weeks to make it into the jv level, unless your school sucks...

in my high school its extremely competative and you wouldnt make it, but if your school is small than maybe you have a chance.

the trick to getting the coach's attention though is to be LOUD. call the ball as much as you can and be very vocal.  coaches HATE quiet players

  4. 2 weeks is no enough to really teach you anything of value. You need to play and get as much exposure to the game as possible. Play any and everywhere. Boys and girls club, Club VB, beach(if possible) watch the Olympics....both indoor and outdoor, Indoor starts on 8/8/08 10pm est. Check with usvolleyball.org for more times. Work on short spints, suicides and general all around fitness....sit ups   push ups and if you can jump rope. This will help you with some fitness levels. Otherwise Good luck and practice.
