Last year, I tried out for the volleyball team for my middle school, and I didn't make it. The reason why is because I didn't have strong overhand serves or spikes. Now I'm good at the spikes, i just need more overhand practice. I REALLLY REALLY want to make the team this coming year because I won't forgive my self if i don't. I really want this for me. We went to the meeting today and they told us that they're only picking 12 girls. and like 3 or 4 won't be there this year. And i know that 9 or 8 of them that made it last year will most likely make it this coming year. And like, 40 girls are trying out. I need to know how much i should practice a day over the summer, and what should i practice? It would be a BIG THANKS because i REALLY REALLY want this bad. I will love you ALL if i do make it. PLEASE help me & thank you so much for reading this. <3

  1. I'm a volleyball coach and we have had a couple of girls in high school who weren't very strong overhand servers. What we did was get a medicine ball or a weighted ball and practice throwing it overhand. You can play catch with a friend or just throw it against a wall somewhere. Make sure that you throw it into the air if you throw it at the wall and don't let it bounce on the ground.

My best advice that I can give you is to always have a ball in your hand. You can sit in your bed and set it to yourself or even pass it to yourself outside working on keeping it in control. If you have a wall you can pass against (preferably not inside your house) but a concrete wall or something like that would work.

There are lots of things you can do to help you improve your skills. If you have any questions or would like some more activities you could do then email me at t_shores02@hotmail.com and I would be more than happy to help you out. Good luck!!

  2. it doesn't matter how much you think you should practice, but how much you want to practice. try and get as much practice as your parents will let you have and just try your hardest.

  3. I say just give it your all. ALWAYS hustle for everything, let the coaches see that you want to ball. And to practice your overhand try using a wall, even if you don't get it by tryouts DON'T GIVE UP. I still have trouble with my serve. Just work really hard on everything, always be attentive by listening and following directions. I pretty much think that's all you need. Good Luck.
