Volleyball tryouts..what should i do?

I have volleyball tryouts coming up and I really don't have a chance of making the team. I did not improve enough over the summer. Also, there are only 3 spots open and at the end of last season the coach moved 3 girls up from JV to fill in on varisty. They said it wasn't permanant, but unless they got worse, I'm thinking they will probably be the ones to make the team. I will also be a junior and I'm not allowed to play on JV, so I have to make varsity if I want to play. I am not sure if I should even try out because I don't want to embarrass myself. Not that I'm really that bad though; I was on the top team in my age group for club volleyball. What should I do? Tryout or not?

  1. You should tryout!

I have tryouts tomorrow and i'm suuperr nervous.

    Just go for it.

  2. Jodie,

Never give up. Never. Go practice some more; work on your weakest moves. Observe where you need more work and then do it over and over. Develop your passion for your sport, and participating in it. Tell your coach how much you want to play, and what you are willing to do to improve your skills. Are you thinking of playing on your college volleyball team? Tell your coach that, too. Do what you can to be ready for fall, and what you want to do after that. Be willing to do what it takes. It's clearly what you want to do, so dedicate yourself to doing that.

  3. Hi, first of all I would really encourage you to try out for the team, and even if you dont make it, it is good to have the tryout experience. If you know the basics, setting, bumping, hitting, serving, you should be fine. But ussually if you are able to execute a hard jump serve, a deadly floater, or ever just a regular downball, you should be okay. It also depends if the team is looking for a setter, or hitters. If you need to work on something, you still have some time, and you can do some extensive practice to make it better. I didn't know how to jump serve and in an hour of practice I nailed it! have a volleyball playing friend come out and help you, and most important, HAVE FUN! who cares what other people think? just do your best and if your meant to be on the team things will work out.

  4. tryout!! if you're better than a majority of the girls who are younger than you, they'll look up to you. just try your best to keep up with varsity. if it doesnt work out, so what, you at least tried! if people ask why you're not on the team, say "i went to the doctor and they said my knees are screwed up and that i have to sit this season out..its ridiculous i was looking forward to volleyball!" they should buy that lol
