Volleyball update: Brazil signal their intent to dig success at FIVB World Championship
The Women’s National Volleyball Team of Brazil is ready to take the challenge at FIVB World Championship, which is scheduled to start on 29th October, 2010 in Japan. The exciting volleyball campaign will continue up till November 14 and new statuses
will be defined for the teams. Since the mega event of women’s volleyball is just around the corner, the teams are sharpening their skills and getting ready to rumble. The 24 participating teams have been divided into 4 pools and arrangements have been finalized.
The training and practice sessions are getting better of player these days. On Monday, Japan invited Brazil for a friendly match, which apparently brought hard-luck for them.
Brazil vs. Japan 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, and 25-14)
The powerhouse Brazil enjoyed the top form and accepted the challenge. The match was held at the Olympic Stadium, Japan on Monday, 25th October, 2010. The winner of FIVB Grand Prix 2010, the Brazilian squad created a great spark in the game and
defeated hosts at their home-soil. The devastating 3-0 defeat posed a clear signal for all other teams in the championship that Brazil is totally shaped up to make a noise. The head coach of Brazil, Jose Roberto Guimaraes set a direction for the team and it
achieved success.
Match overview
The wonderful defence was the insignia of Brazilian team in this particular match. They stood in front of the Japanese team like a concrete wall. They played with improved ball-reception and tackled the difficult shots in a great style.
The first set of the game was a close fight between two teams. The home-side had the competitive edge of home-court and tried to influence the Brazilian squad. Somehow Brazil denied their dominance in the game and successfully overcame the power of Japanese
team. Brazil formed good combinations and stayed out of the blues. They regularly added points in their score and nothing could hinder their performance. Nonetheless, the home-side was confident to claim the first set. They came from back-row attack and created
trouble for the opposite side with heavy strike. The spectacular combat engaged the fans for whole time. Finally, the first set ended in Brazil’s favour at 25-22, while Japan had to face the failure.
The victory in first set proved to be a stepping stone for the Brazilian team. They beat the Japanese squad in front of their local crowd which boosted Brazil’s confidence and morale. They produced even better shots in second set and didn’t allow Japan to
stay in their way. The powerful shots and strong jump-serves enabled Brazilian team to extend their lead and they posted another set-victory. Brazil secured the second set with the help of 25-20.
The loss of two consecutive sets flabbergasted Japan’s team. They lost their feet in the game and really slowed down in the third set. Brazil came up with strong attack and dismissed home-team with a good margin of 11 points. Japan received 14-25 defeat
in third set.
Post-match
The coach, Ze Roberto was delighted about the early win. He said, "The team performed well and showed an improvement in their defensive work.Facing Japan is always a good test in terms of speed and the pace of the game. It's the kind of match where you have
to be focused all the time."
Brazil libero Fabiana de Oliveira echoed her coach's sentiments after a satisfying warm-up ahead of Friday's opening game against Kenya in Hamamatsu. "Playing a team like Japan on the eve of a major championship is always interesting," she said. "We managed
to put into practice some things we do in training. It was good but we know it can be even better."
