Volleyball update: Clay Stanley becomes Athlete of the Year in United States
The two-time Olympian, 32-year-old Clay Stanley has been named the Athlete of the Year for 2010 season by USA Volleyball. Stanley plays opposite for the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team and he has earned a very good reputation in the recent years. The
USA Volleyball has acknowledged his extra ordinary skills and dedication to his profession. He has been selected as the Indoor Male Athlete of the year. Likewise, in the women’s section, Stacy Sykora settled for the position of female Athlete of the Year 2010
in United States.
Clay Stanley joined U.S. Men’s Volleyball team in 2000 and came a long way with the team. He followed the steps of his country mates and clinched success for his outstanding performance in 2010. Ryan Miller grabbed the honour of becoming Athlete of the Year
in 2007, Ried Priddy and Sean Rooney captured the same award in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
In the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Clay Stanley worked out great performance and he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. Stanley supported his team at the 2010 FIVB Men’s World Championship in Italy. Stanley was named Best Server of
the tournament. Stanley turned many heads around in the World Championship for his amazing digs and dives on the floor.  
Likewise in the 2010 World League Tournament, he was named United States’ leading scorer and overall he was placed at number 6 in the tournament. He registered 150 points for the U.S. team via 18 blocks, 109 kills and 23 aces. He missed four matches in the
World League but he covered the deficit in rest of the games. He played 33 sets and clipped 113 points, which enabled him to clinch 31st position in league players. Overall, Stanley was credited for his 252 points in 2010 season. According to DataVolley,
he supported U.S. Team’s score through 191 kills, 38 aces and 28 blocks.
The head coach of U.S. team, Alan Knipe praises the good work of Stanley. He talked about the qualities of Stanley. He said, “What people don’t know about Clay is that he provides his leadership to the team with his work ethic. He is ready to work hard all
practice long, no matter what we are working on; the same with matches and the same with the weight room.”
USA Volleyball has yet to make more announcements about the Beach Male and Female Athlete of the year in the next few days.
