Volleyball update: Gamova Ekaterina becomes the T.V. Athlete of the month in Russia
The Russian Volleyball star, 30-year-old Gamova Ekaterina has been named Athlete of the Month by Russian TV channel, RUTV for the month of November. Gomova is one of the tallest volleyball players in the world. She is six feet and nine inches high and has
a very good physique. The amazing player has earned a good name over the past few years. In the recent memory, she was part of the victorious team at the 2010 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Japan. The extra-ordinary skills of Gamova enabled her to clinch
the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
Gamova has earned Athlete of the Month award on account of 59.5 percent votes by volleyball fans. She raised a 35-poing haul in the final showdown of Women’s World Championship in Japan and received huge applause for her spectacular performance throughout
the tournament. Gamova was also associated with Russian Women’s National Volleyball Team in 2006 when they captured the Women’s World Championship. Moreover, she captured the silver-ware at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
She debuted for her first match in 1999 and caught the limelight in a very short time. She proved her endeavour in front of a bigger audience and worked out great performance. She clinched gold-ware at the Junior World championship, Grand Prix, and CEV European
Championship in 1999. In the same year, Russian team settled for second position at the World Championship.
The following years brought more successes for Russian team and provided better chances for players to groom and flourish. Gamova always played a key role in team’s success. She was part of the team which captured silver and bronze medals in 2000.
Individually, Gamova was named best blocker in 2000. She became best scorer and best blocker in 2001. In 2004, she rose up as Europe’s best player. The tall and agile player has so much potential to play in difficult situations. She has a huge fan following,
who definitely voted for their favourite player. The year 2010 season proved to be another success for Gamova as she captured the award of MVP at World Championship and also became Athlete of the Month in home country.
