Volleyball update: International Referee Course gets underway in Thailand
The International Referee Candidate Course (IRCC) started off in Thailand today, Friday, May 20, 2011.
The instructive activity is underway in the Thai province, Pathum Thani. The FIVB Development Centre in Thailand is providing the services for IRCC, while Valaya Princess Hotel on the campus of the Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University is holding the activity.
This is a joint venture of the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) and Thailand Volleyball Association. The sole purpose of this course is to work on the abilities and skills of match referees.
The opening day of the course saw a total of 23 participants from various countries of the world. Aspiring referees from Thailand, Australia, Belarus, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine Macau China, New Zealand, Spain, Hong Kong and China have
shown up at the course. The one-week training is scheduled to run for six more days and will finish on May 26.
The opening ceremony of the International Referee Candidate Course was attended by the President of Thailand Volleyball Association, Mr. Somporn Chaibangyang, officials of FIVB and other local bodies.
Mr Chaibangyang presided over the ceremony and formally welcomed everyone at the IRCC. The important guests of the ceremony included Gavriel of Israel, who is President of the FIVB Referee Commission; Course Instructor and President of FIVB Rules of the
Games Commission, Alexander Steel from Scotland and the Referee Commission member, Songsak Chareonpong. Kraus is also performing his duties as the Course Director.
The course will offer theoretical and practical material to the participants. Those taking part in the course said they were satisfied with the facilities and service provided by FIVB Development Centre. The opening day of the course most essentially featured
the introductory lesson, while the participant will get hands-on training in the coming days.
The credit goes to Thailand Volleyball Association, which has put so much effort to bring this course to country. FIVB is optimistic that desired results will be achieved through International Referee Candidate Course.
