Question:

Volleyball vs. track?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I usually run the mile and 800 in track.

I am an outside hitter in volleyball.

I am 5'11 and about 145lbs.

here are my questions:

Do you think that is a better physique for volleyball or track?

b/c I've noticed that the really good hitters in volleyball either jump really high or weigh a bit more.

& the best runners are usually really skinny.

the best boy (distance) runner at my school

is the same height as me and weighs a little less.

I like both sports, but do you think I should lose a little weight to become a more competitive runner or should I gain some weight to become a more beastly hitter?

  1. I would stay at the weight you are but gain muscle

I reccommend you lose 5-10 lbs. but gain them back in muscle in your legs, stomach, or arms.If I were you I

would get in both.Volleyball seson is in Sept. and Oct.

track is in Jan. or Feb.

  2. you have the advantage of height so go for volleyball. i'm short so i got 2 be the setter.lol my college volleyball team we call ourselves the vballgals. lol

  3. size doesn't matter to be a hitter, you would think the smaller u are the higher u should jump. i wouldn't change your size at all. i would especially try not to gain weight. there's no healthy way to go about that, except get more muscle. your so lucky to be tall. i am 5'8 and a freshman, i want to be at least 5'9 or 5'10. good luck

  4. I think you have a good problem, some people would love to have your height and "light" weight to be an outside hitter especially the height.

Anyone at any height can become a good "runner". But not everyone has the ability (and satisfaction) to smash a volleyball at 50mph except an outside hitter (or any good hitter).

In my opinion, I would take advantage of the height and play the outside hitter. There's more explosiveness and impact and excitement when hitting a volleyball. Hitters get all the glory on the VB team too!

I think your physique is better suited for volleyball. weight is easier to control than your height...

  5. well, it depends which one u do more of. if you're already good at both things i would just keep ur normal weight and just let skill make u better

  6. i think that with your height you are basically meant to play volleyball so many peope wpuld kill to be tht tall. but thre is no need to gain moree weight. i am 5'4" and 97 lbs. but i definately wish i was that tall because i am a libero and not that good of a hitter. my 2 really good friends who are amzing at volleyball and their team got 3rd in the junior olympics are even shorter only 5'7" and 5'9" but they weigh about 116lbs..that shows that you dont need to be heavy to be a good hitter.  if you are light you can jump higher you should just get more muscle..work on your biceps and practice your swing alot

    hope this helps

  7. -That is a better physique for volleyball but it depends on your athletic ability and what event youre on in track. I'm an OH and i dont weigh much... i weigh around 120 lbs. Not all best runners are really skinny... it should be because of their muscle mass and how fast the twitch muscles are.

    - You dont have to gain weight in volleyball.. its just the right timing, approach and how fast you can swing that ball and use your weight at the same time.

-Just weight train and work your leg muscles out (which can help in both sports)... which ever one is more fun to you

  8. volleyball is a better sport than track because it does more exercize than track because it exercizes you hands you legs and your abdomen.

  9. Don't change. It doesn't matter what weight you are. If you enjoy playing the sports it doesn't matter, just because most people are either skinny or bigger in those sports doesn't mean that's why they are good at it. Some people are big but can run fast, some people are small and jump high. I hope you don't try to change yourself, your fine the way you are! I hope you find what your looking for in my question.

  10. i think u should do what u think is best for u and which u like more because it dosent matter what ppl say.so just go with what u think u r better at.

  11. since vball is a fall sport and track is a spring sport, then you can bulk up for vball, then lose a little weigth for track.

    hope this helped

  12. volleyball is the best!!!

  13. dont gain weight. thats stupid just te be a hitter. u can be really skinny and still be an awesome hitter. all hitters are, are agressive and they have a strong arm if anything u want to be skinnier to be able to jump high so u can get a better view of the hit.and personally i would bick volleyball over track but thats just cause i LOVE volleyball

  14. To me none of us here can choose that one for you.

You need to choose which one you have more passion for.

    Which one you love?

You shouldn't need to change anything to become something you are not.

Just to become a more beastly hitter you will gain weight.

Can't you lift weights and do exercises to build up your muscles instead of just gaining weight.?

    Losing weight is the same.

Why can't you just accept what you have and use it to your ability?

Why do you compare yourselves to the fastest guy?

That is his body and not yours so if you lose weight doesn't mean your going to be faster because maybe that isn't your body. That is his.

Or you could work out to get faster.?

Your call,... these are just a few tips or at least what I would do if I had to chose.

  15. Okay, your weight in volleyball doesn't really matter as long as your a good player and can run and it sounds like you can run so it doesn't matter, and for track if your fast does it really matter how much you weigh? If you love the sports you wouldn't care...and it sounds like your good at both of them so i wouldn't change...

  16. i think volleyball and it doesnt matter what you weigh, it depends on your muscle-fat ratio,

  17. I'm a middle in volleyball, and weight doesnt matter. You just need to jump high(good muscles in the calves). Running, yes being smaller helps.

  18. it depends on what you like more.

    its your choice not mine.

im sry i couldne really help you out.

    best regards : p

  19. volleyball is amazing and its my passion. you need to discover which is your passion, which you like better not which suits your body best. then play that sport.
