  1. main positions are setter, hitter and defensive player

setter gets the second ball and sets it for a hitter to hit

hitter blocks hits coming from the other side and hits left, middle or right side by calling a number for the setter

defensive player digs up hits and is on serve recieve

  2. The main positions are setter, outside, middle, right side, and libero.

And as they can probably explain the positions better than me, go to www.volleyballnet.net

A big factor in which position you play is your height. Taller people are generally middle and shorter people tend to be liberos.

But if this is your school's first team, they might not go by that and just put everyone in different positions.

    Good luck.

  3. There are a lot of different takes on what they call the positions and the descriptions. But, here are mine.

Setter-- they stay real close to the net and they can go side to side while ball is in motion. They set the ball with their finger tips to a hitter who hits the ball over the net. Setters ALWAYS  get the 2nd hit unless you yell help to  our teammates. Then hopefully they will help you.

Hitter or spiker-- They normaly have the 3rd hit. Unless the setter needs help or the ball comes over the net short on a serve or a volley. They stay behind the first white line or whatever your colors are. You can either spike it, bump it, or tip or set it over.

back row specialist-- These people are in the last row. These are the people that get the long balls that they serve or hit over. They also call the out of bounds on their side since they can see  mostly the whole court. They hit the ball when ever its right in front of them unless someone calls otherwise. They always stay in the back.

Server--you are in the right corner or in the middle of thecourt and you serve behind the boundry line under hand or over hand. Its all about your preferance.

If a ball is close you need to say "MINE" OR "I GOT IT"  or juss if your going to get it. Just so people will back off of it because they know you are going to get it.

    GOOD LUCK

  4. too many positions for anyone to explain on this...

    go to "volleyballnet.net"

(that really wasn't meant to make you nervous.... GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN)

  5. They will also refer to the court as numbers.  It is the serving order.  They may just tell you to start in area 1 when they send you out to the court.  Or they may call it by starting position on the court.  Using the below diagram, right back is #1, right front is #2, middle front is #3, left front is #4, left back is #5 and middle back is #6.

    1    6    5
