The density of liquid hydrogen is .070kg/L.So to store 5 kg hydrogen we need 71 L vessel. But I see in the literature that to store 5 kg hydrogen in vehicle it takes 110 L vessel .Why?

I really appreciate your answer.Thank you.

  1. there are different ways to store hydrogen.

The most inventive that I have seen is a dry storage method where the hydrogen is absorbed through a chemical process and stored in little pellets which release the hydrogen when introduced to air or water.

this storage method allows for more hydrogen in the same space as compaired to liquid storage.

  2. hydrogen will be difficult to store with it's very low boiling point.  The vessel will require a lot of insulation so the hydrogen doesn't rapidly boil away.

Ultimately gaseous fuels cannot compete with liquid fuels for VEHICLES.  It'll be easier to just use the hydrogen in FT reactors to make synthetic liquid fuels than to retrofit all the fuel pumps.
