Volume of my stereo went to maximum.

Question

The stereo of my BMW 530i, 2003 went to maximum volume out of nothing. While driving it just went to max and there is no way to lower the volume. Any idea of what went wrong?
I lowered the bass and balanced everything to right and front seakers to avoid damage, there is no way to bring volume down using the radio of controls on stearing wheel.
