Question:

Voluntary Deployments?

I am a current ROTC cadet at my local university, however, i am considering a voluntary deployment as most of my unit will be going out soon. I am MOS qualified (11B) and do not feel like i should not go just because i am also enrolled in college.

A lot of people do select ROTC to avoid deployment, and i do not think that is right. Some of the men leaving were actually with me at Ft. Benning. I just wanted an outside opinion from others serving in the military.

Thank you

  1. If you get a chance to go on a deployment, please DO!!  it is a great experience.  It is part of the reason why i joined the Military is to go on a deployment.  My uncle spent 35 years in the Military and he has been on deployment in a total of 20 years in his career.  Yes it is very risky to go out there....  but isn't that why you joined?  So you can put your life on the line to save someone else?  You need to look at this situation from the military's point of view.  They put all this money into you to get you through collage.  You might be able to get on a voluntary deployment, but if others did it then you can do it.  You just need to ask the right questions to the right people.  You should get done the school before you loose your chance.  You have a whole career to go on deployments.
