You can ask your public librarians.  If they tell you that they don't have anything that you want to do, ask them to use their skill on the Internet (which they are quite good at) and they can find volunteer work outside of the library.

Try the phone number: 211.  It works some places during some hours of the day.  You can give help or you can get help.  The 211 phone number is going to be a good thing, but if you are reading this, you can probably help yourself better by using the Web.
