Question:

Volunteer Teachers, teaching assistants... feasibility?

Hello. I've contacted my local middle school about after school academic programs and I was told there were none. There was no budget for it. I was thinking of looking into the possibility of bringing in some volunteer teachers, or teaching assistants etc. Does anyone have experience in this? What do you reccomend? This school is badly in need of help!

  1. By contacted your local middle school what does that mean?  Did you talk to the principal, teachers, or counselors?  I know for our elementary school - when help is there we jump at it.  Sometimes there is a teacher (or teachers) there that have been looking for a parent to help take the burden of finding and scheduling volunteers for an after school part time enrichment program.  They are often willing to give advice - they unfortunately just don't have the time to staff it as they have families they need to get home to.

If you have exhausted talking to multiple contacts at the school see if you have a parent resource center in your school district.  These offices are set up to help you help the schools.

    Good luck
