I'm in 7th grade (12yrs, turning 13 soon) and i need community service hours for the program I'm in at my middle school, National Junior Honor Society (N.J.H.S.). I've tried so hard to find a place to volunteer but either I'm too young or the people wont get back to me. I tried volunteermatch.com but I'm too young for the places I'm interested in volunteering. PLZ HELP!! THANKS SOOO MUCH!!

  1. Have you contacted Kiwanis International or Heifer Project International?  Both have volunteers in you town.

  2. Please check out www.HandsOnMiami.org. Until you turn 13, you can participate in Community Bridges projects, which are large-scale projects held 1-2/month.

When you turn 13, you will then be able to participate in the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC).

Until then, please email Bobbi@HandsOnMiami.org to send you the latest projects for Community Bridges. Be sure to check out www.HandsOnMiami.org to see more information.

  3. Also try:

    Idealist, http://www.idealist.org

    Change.org, http://www.change.org

    CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com

    Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org

    http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/

    ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site,

    http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

There's also this government sponsored site, http://volunteer.gov/gov/ which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc.

Also talk to your parents -- will one of you volunteer with you?
