I'm interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter, and possibly a full-time one down the road, and I have a question: Generally, what kind of training or classes are required in order to become a volunteer firefighter? Do they actually give you a suit and everything? I know that specific questions can be answered at my local fire station, but I'm sure all volunteers go through some kind of introductory training or something.

  1. The introductionary course to be a firefighter is usually around 140 hours long and is called Firefighter I. This class will teach you about fires, equipment and how to put them out. When you join a volunteer fire department, they will issue you firefighting gear to wear to the school. Most larger departmens in the larger cities send you to their own school and provide you with uniforms and the firefighting personal protective equipment.

  2. you go through something call firefighter 1 or something.then you can be vol.fireman.then you have to take original classes so you can be promoted and be capable of doing additional operations
