Question:

Volunteer in africa for a gap year?

I really want to volunteer in africa for a few months during my gap year, preferably do some teaching or work in a medical setting (I want to read medicine at uni).

I really want to get stuck in, and I keep hearing about how places, such as in kenya and tanzania are crying out for volunteers to help, but all the websites I've looked at seem to charge huge amounts of money!

How can I organise volunteering work, possibly even helping in a hospital or any medical setting (I want to read medicine at university) without paying huge amounts of money?

Any help would be really appreciated!

thanks

JJ

  1. Its a really confusing thing to pay to volunteer. There are lots of opportunities to help in Africa, but the majority of charities request a large "donation" for you to do so.  I put "volunteer Africa Free" in a google search and came up with numerous organisations offering free room and board to volunteer (I think you will still need to cover your flight, shots and malaria medicine, and other personal costs). I also found this link http://www.africacentre.org/volunteer_op...

Good luck and I hope you really get to see Africa. It really is a great experience.

  2. Thats nice. I am going to Africa myself. I am getting married there in April

  3. SOUNDS LIKE A GRRRRRRRRRRRREAT IDEA
