Volunteer organizations in India?

Question

I will be in India (Khar,Mumbai) this summer and really wanted to volunteer there. All the online programs charge large fees as they cover transportation,housing etc. Since I will be living there, I need none of this. I just need some volunteer organization that i can volunteer at and that can give me something to validate how many ever hours I do. Know of any organizations?

1. You can find lots of information on the internet, if you just try.

a) The "online programs" that you refer to are merely agencies/middlemen. They just place volunteers, but some of the sites mention the NGOs with which they work. Using that route, I came across these charities working with young children ....

b) If you type "NGOs Mumbai" (or other words like "charities") into your preferred search engine [*] then you should find listings like this one (with 32 NGOs) ....

2. Only you know what type of charity you want to work with - children, elderly, disabled, sick, homeless, women, animals, environment etc., so take time to search for a few in your ideal area. I wish you success.
