Volunteer work/community service in Melbourne, AUS?

Just wondering if anyone knew of any volunteer work or community service options that are available to an 18 year old girl for part time or casual work? I really feel like I need to give back to the community as well as gain valuable experience but am unsure what I can do and where to look. I am in university so hours are quite flexible but I do have another casual job in a restaurant. I also live in Stonnington and unfortunately cant travel too far out as I dont yet drive.

Thanks :)

  1. First ask yourself what could you be passionate about-- perhaps that will give you the direction toward which you should look -- do you feel alive when you work with young people - of course, you haven't had much experience yet, but you could volunteer at church or in a daycare or more exciting would be a summer camp in some capacity, but get real and ask yourself what would really be your cup of tea-- working with youth -- inner city, or teaching them to swim, or serving them lunch, etc.  Get specific.  You'll have a great time if you know what interests you have.  Music?  Teaching?  Many subjects go hand in hand.  I teach and enjoy employing music to teach or give a break to the monotony of book learning.

Ask various companies in your area if you could volunteer -- esp. if you're interested in a certain field.
