What are some great volunteer opportunities for a high school student? Preferably, global warming and international issues would be good. Also, anything with music, reading, travel, and etc. would be helpful. thanks.

  1. This website is not your highschool.

Go ask some people in your highschool.

  2. the peace corps.  if you want to see what the US is offering, you would go to firstgov.gov

  3. If you go to earthwatch.org, they have many opportunities. It's expensive, but I think there are special programs and possibilites for high school students. I haven't been on one, but I've heard from others that the trips are wonderful and educational.

  4. I'm not in High School, But i am i jr.high/Middle School. I've taken Lot of classes and after school programs on this subject, and i know a lot  about. i can help in anyway, just let me know.

  7. look up wwwthesca.org to work with the national park system.  I don't know about international stuff

  8. www.volunteermatch.org is a great site to find any volunteering opportunities in any state of any type.  You can search by age range too.  I suggest checking it out.

  9. You can find every kind of volunteering opportunity you have named, at a variety of organizations, all over the USA, at these web sites:

    VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org

    Idealist, http://www.idealist.org

    Change.org, http://www.change.org

    CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com

    Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org

    http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/

    ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site, http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

There's also this government sponsored site, http://volunteer.gov/gov/ which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc.

If you want to be a volunteer to help with the consequences of a natural disaster, such as Hurricane Katrina, you need to register and prepare NOW. Here's a web site where you can register and start your preparation so that you can help the next time disaster strikes:

  10. Check to see if there are any United Nations Development Program  (UNDP) groups in an area you would like to visit or UNICEF as well. Both usually have something you can do.  I did a UNDP project in Siwa,Egypt a couple of times to help set up education facilities for the women....it was frustrating because the government took away all the stuff we set up and gave it to someone else, so don't always think you will change the world because often times the world will just change right back.

  11. find out stuff with your gov't..I know the Canadian gov't has a great year long volunteer program that only cost about $300!

    Canada World Youth...

    just google,google,google!

and talk to people in your school!
