Volunteer work in India?

Question

I am from the United States and am looking for a good organization to volunteer with in India. I am interested in working with orphans or street children. I will only be able to stay for 2 weeks. The organization can be Christian or non-religious.

Hmm, do you go to church somewhere?  I would definitely check with them.  Churchs usually have lists of different places that are looking for people to help them out.  Ask them if they know of any organizations in India.  I'm sure there's lots of ministries that visit and help out in the brothels.

I think that is a great idea, and I feel sorry for the people that when they here of helping out children the first thing that pops into their heads is child molestation.  What sick minds out there!

2 weeks? your a bit dubious aren't you. sure your not a sicko. but 2 weeks volunteer work?. with kids? come on.

I am the Secretary & Webmaster for Baal Dan Charities, which was founded 2 years ago by my sister in Dallas TX.  Baal Dan helps street children and orphans in India by providing them with food, clothing, school supplies, etc.  We mainly work with existing orphanages and schools and supply them with goods on an as-needed basis.  

Because we are a relatively new and small organization, we currently don't have a "base" in India with volunteers working all the time.  But if you know what dates you will be in India, please let us know, and maybe it will line up with the dates my sister or other vounteers will be there.  For now the majority of our work is in Calcutta, although we are involved in projects in other cities as well.  

Worst case, if you are unable to volunteer for Baal Dan while in India, you can always help us with our work in the US - fundraising, spreading awareness, etc.  We are based out of Dallas, TX, but also have a few individuals who are helping us in other cities.  If you'd be interested in helping, please let us know!!
