I used to do A LOT of volunteer work, but in the last few years I haven't been active. Now that it's time to transfer to a university, I'm a little worried about being able to show more than just a good academic record. Since I'm already inclined to help people, I figure I should try to display that now more than ever.
However, I'd really like to do something different than the usual stuff people choose from the list. I'd like to be more active than say, helping at a soup kitchen once a week. I'm most passionate about working with the homeless community and interested in other social issues. I'm just having a little trouble figuring out where to start or how to make an effective impact. Maybe there is a great organization already in motion that I overlooked?
If anyone has ideas that I can work with, I'd really appreciate it!
P.S. ~ This is definitely not just for the sake of filling out college apps...I've been wanting to get back into charitable work for awhile now...still, realistically I do have to keep the application reviewers in mind and make an impression if I hope to be selected for admission...
