I'm interested in volunteering overseas, the catch to that is you have to pay a fee for most of the programs, and the Peace Corps, well I've not even started college yet ( I plan to though, I only just turned 18) Any suggestions for programs or anything helpful would be appreciated =) Thanks

  1. Well, unfortunately just about every volunteer abroad program out there will charge a fee. Some charge way less than others. Remember that with the fees often come room and board, so that part of it is taken care of. Also the cost of living in developing countries is very low, so your money will stretch very far. And, the longer you stay, the cheaper the fees ... generally the first 2 or 3 weeks of volunteering are the highest priced, but if you stay longer the fees get lower.

Check out www.VolunteerAbroad.com and click around for volunteer programs that have low fees. Here are a couple to get you started ...

You can also have fundraisers at your local school/ church/ civic organizations to help pay for your volunteer trip, and use this link for student airfares:

I really recommend volunteering abroad. I volunteered at an orphanage and it was the greatest experience of my life. I'm currently saving to do it again next year. It will change your life and make you a better person ... if you can find a low-cost program and get the funds together, do it!

    Good luck!
