Ok so i want to start volunteering. One, because it makes me feel like a good person. And two because it would look really great on college applications and other things like that. But, the only thing is that I'm only 13. Almost 14 (in October) and I can't seem to find any places to really volunteer for my age. By the way I live in South Ogden, Utah.

Thank you in advance!

  1. Well if you are not old enough to do something like being a pink lady in a hospital or something like that. Maybe start closer to home by finding some older folk in your neighbor hood and asking them if they need help with yard work. Or snow shoveling once the snow starts to fly, even going and getting in their mail can be helpful since falling and breaking something is a huge risk for the elderly. Once you are old enough to volunteer elsewhere then you will already have the habit. Also see if you can volunteer at your church. I wouldn't worry too much about college applications as you have plenty of time to do volunteer work to put on those applications.

  2. Special Olympics always needs volunteers.  &)

  3. You should go to your local animal shelter and ask if you can volunteer

or your local nursing home. Hope This Helps!

  4. I think it's great that you're looking to volunteer.  There's nothing wrong with doing it in part to help your college applications - just don't let it be the only reason.  Being able to show that you're active in the community and volunteer for things you believe in can definitely make a difference for colleges with more competitive admissions processes.  They're also looking for a track record, so I wouldn't push off doing it just because of your age, thinking that you can tack some volunteer work on your junior or senior year just before you fill out college applications.

Another good reason in that vein are the personal recommendations you can get - volunteering is a great way to learn, grow, and work with other folks in the community, giving them a real foundation to write a good letter of recommendation for you.

As to where to volunteer - if you are interested in social programs, medicine, education, science and technology, etc., volunteering in an organization in that field looks good on the college resume, you get experience to see if what it's like to work in that area for the future, you can network with folks for future jobs and contacts in the field.  Also, restricting it to a certain type of organization makes it easier to narrow down your search - just do something simple like put "volunteer opportunities south ogden utah" into the search box at the top of the page.  Looks like there a bunch of websites built to help match potential volunteers with organizations needing help - I hope some of the links below will help.  Good luck!

  5. wow, your just like me. it's so great that you want to make a difference in the world. not only can you volunteer but, you can also... RECYCLE! both are great ways to help. you could try volunteering at a library, school, a pound, at your church. the possibilities are almost endless. thank you for being a good person! =D

  6. Good for you. Your logic is right on target. Is there any chance of finding an adult to volunteer with you? It isn't always necessary, but it will make the process allot easier.

So, or no, a few places to check would be your school office, church or local community centers. A couple on-line links are:

    http://volunteers.utah.gov/volunteercent...

    http://www.volunteersolutions.org/volunt...

    http://www.southogdencity.com/sodays.mai...

To find these, I put "south ogden, utah, volunteer" in my search engine. There were allot of others.

  7. If there are any local beaches around, you could try and help cleaning trash up off the beach. Also you could help work around animal shelters. And you could do even simpler jobs, like going around town and asking local neighbors if you could cut their grass, or babysit. I am 13 to and I baby sit a lot. But um.......... also you could go around to churches and ask for help. You could even go to your schools main office and ask if there are any volunteering help.
