  1. volunteer to build others up

  2. colleges are looking for originality and a type of individual that will enrich their campus. do something you feel passionate about. if you have a heart for children with disabilities, look into working with afterschool programs at special needs schools. if you are really into politics, try serving as a volunteer for a presidential candidate. maybe you like animals or care for the enviroment- volunteer at an animal shelter or put together a group to fix up a local park. but most of all, let it relate to you and let it have some kind of enrichment that would help give you experience for what you want to do as a career.

  3. Remember you are unique and special and you can do anything you want to.Help the hospitals out, animals, the elderly to visit them as some don't get visitors.

  4. The greatest thing you can do is volunteer because you want too. Not for gratifiocation or to stand out, but it is what you want to do to help people. There are so many things, but being a 10th grader you should try that big sisters/brothers program, become a mentor and help an elementary kid, but do it cause you want to and someone needs you

  5. You need to build up relationships with volunteering organizations so that you can take on leadership roles as a volunteer. Either use the web sites listed below, or look for organizations who are focused on the work you feel most passionate about and offer them your services.

The kind of volunteering that "stands out" is volunteering where you:

-- work well in high-stress/crisis situations

-- support and manage other volunteers

    -- successfully undertake a time-intensive project

But to get to do these kinds of activities, you must prove yourself in volunteering tasks that may seem mundane.

    VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org

    Idealist, http://www.idealist.org

    Change.org, http://www.change.org

    CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com

    Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org

    http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/

    ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site,

    http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

There's also this government sponsored site, http://volunteer.gov/gov/ which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc.

  6. I agree with the first guy, do it because you want to only. If for any other reason, it isn't; the same. Your heart has to be in it. Try tutoring another student, mentoring, helping seniors, community service, a soup kitchen, etc., there are lots of great organizations that could use your help. Google volunteer for your area and you should see a lot of places that need your help. Good luck to you!
