Volunteering abroad? lone female...?

Question

Am a british graduate with four years work experience in education policy. Want to go abroad for 6months minimum and not sure what to do - as a lone female was thinking volunteering/teaching might be better than simply travelling (from a safety angle though I might be wrong). Anyone got any tips please. Cheers!
