I applied to volunteer at a hospital, and I was just wondering the types of things a volunteer does? I am a college student wanting to get a feel for careers like nursing and being a doctor. I am considering one of these fields as my major. What would be the best area to volunteer in?

  1. they do a wide variety of jobs.

  2. Do you have a student services department within your college.  They should be able to give you advice and direction also.

  3. Well for my personal experience in volunteering, they let us do simply things such as grooming(give the old folks a manicure) or sometimes help pass out food for them during entertainment night.

I don't know what assignment they'll give you, but if your interested in any special things there then just ask the person incharge of the volunteering program at the hospital and see what they can give you.

I suppose they'll only give you simple things that won't involve doing much work, since your not actually working there and all.

  4. i work at a hospital.  the volunteers at my hospital work at the front desk (answering questions) they run the gift shop, help run the coffee shop.  they run the ice cream socials that we have.  they push a cart around (from the gift shop) to all the floors so patients can buy things.  they visit kids in the pediatric ward.  some have approved dogs that they bring in to visit people.  It just depends.  a lot of them do behind the scene things too.  Just contact the hospital and ask them what your options are.

  5. you pretty much start off at the bottom of the totam pole you have to clean bed pans take out the trash sweep run and get the doctors coffee file papers etc... you don't want to do that unless you plan on persuing a job in the medical field
