Volunteering at hospitals?

I'm planning to go to med school, and I was wondering if med schools prefer if you volunteer at a general hospital or a children's hospital. There's a Children's Memorial Hospital and a general hospital near my area. Which would be best?

  1. Any hospital is good on a resume.  If you are going to med school, are you targeting adults or children in your field?  then I would go to the hospital that leans that way.  I use to work for a hospital.  The volunteers got to know the staff and one day, they make good references. Sometimes you can work part-time and they will pay for some of your classes.

  2. Are you planning or have you been accepted?

If you are working on your application, it does give you an advantage over someone else.  It doesn't matter what facility.

Either way, volunteering provides a hands on experience.  I've worked as volunteer coordinator for a city, and I looked for trustworthiness,  willingness, enthusiasm and manners.

Take an internship with your studies because it looks good on a resume for a future job.  Any medical experience goes a long way.
