I am a military police soldier in the army reserves. My unit isn't due to deploy until 2010, and it is a good fit for me to go now. My best friend is deploying in just a few months, and i would really like to go with her. Is it possible to go with her unit, even though they are a guard unit? Or would I have to change components? anybody jump in for this one, my unit isnt much help...

  1. You would need to speak to an Army National Guard Recruiter.  Although it's all Army, they are different components of the Army.  You are under federal obligation in the Reserves.  Your friend's unit is under federal and state obligations.  You would need a letter of release from the Reserves and a letter of acceptance from her unit in the National Guard.  You have to make sure that they have your MOS and rank equivalent available.  If not, they will not allow you to be in her unit.

Take your bestie to the same recruiting station she went to and speak with a NG recruiter.  They can best help you.

  2. All I know you can do is go online and fill out the 365 form and send that in and see if you can get that approved and talk to your head person also, and see if its going to be a possibility. But thats not a guarantee that you'll be deploying with your friend, or even to the same place.

  3. Well you can put yourself on a the volunteer list if you haven't done so already.
