Volunteering for a 13 year old?

Okay, so I know that usually, you need to be 14 to start volunteering, and then 16 to get a job. However, I started school a year early, so I turned 13 eighth grade year, instead of 14. I'm looking for a place where I can help people, such as an orphanage or a nursing home, etc. that doesn't require me to be 14. And I really do not want to volunteer at the local library. Help please? I'm really stuck, but I want to start logging in some volunteering hours. Any suggestions?

  1. Try your local hospital as a candy striper.

  2. You can volunteer at:

    Hospital

    Local Library

    Nursing Homes

    Rehabilitation Centers for the Disabled

    Parks & Recreation

    Privately owned gardening centers

    Day Care Centers

Mow a lawn for an elderly neighbor

Also, do not overlook your local animal shelters. They always need someone to play with and walk the animals.

    Homeless shelters

    Food Banks

    Soup Kitchens

    Botanical Gardens

    Aquariums

  3. Have you thought about volunteering at a local church? That is a good place to start. You might check at a local food bank to see if they would allow you to help there.
