Question:

Volunteering for search and rescue missions?

I'm 21 years old and interested in volunteering for search and rescue missions in or around Stafford/Fredericksburg, Virginia. I want to volunteer on my own time though, since my schedule is ever-chaning due to being in college. How would I go about this? Are there any websites to direct my attentions towards? Any other information is appreciated,

Thank you

  1. If you want to be a volunteer to help with the consequences of a natural disaster, such as Hurricane Katrina, you need to register and prepare NOW. Here's a web site where you can register and start your preparation so that you can help the next time disaster strikes:

    http://www.helpindisaster.org/

  2. One place to start is Red Cross Disaster services. Contact the chapter or Red Cross nearest you.   You will get local disaster response training and as you do that and get skillful you can volunteer for regional and later national and international needs.

Search and rescue is a different thing.  Here are some sites that should lead you to a place to get training and volunteer in your area http://www.blacksburg.gov/rescue/sar.php

    http://www.vaemergency.com/programs/sar/...

    http://www.altavista.com/web/results?ita...

The groups listed can lead you to other groups if they are not the exact place you wnt to volunteer.
