Do you think chairty shops will take on an volunteer for just a summer? I have alot of previous job and shop experince so that shouldn't be a problem, i just wanted to help out for a bit also i will be 20 years old so i'm not a child either.

What do you think i was looking at oxfam but their website isn't helpful at all, they have something to do with online shops and general shops and don't even state if they have vaccancies or anything. Any advice/ help would be appreciated.

  1. if you type in volunteer centre and then the name of your town  followed by org.uk into ask.com or google then the email address for your local volunteer centre should come up and you can register with them on line and they send you a list of places that are asking for volunteers

  2. Go right to the charity shop and apply right there alot of charities will do background checks and they want to see the people that are interested in volunteering and understand why they want to volunteer.  They are careful with screening in these places as some people just volunteer to get good clothes cheap and get the best of the goods.  Some places have even set up no shop if you volunteer there system to prevent this.  So be prepared to meet with a director or two and have a police check completed.  It's great to volunteer and important in our society. Good luck and happy helping.

  3. Just go in person to your local charity shops and offer your services. Most will be glad of the offer.

  4. When I was out of work I went to help out in British Heart Foundation I just went into the shop and asked if they wanted anybody to help.

They Paid My bus fair so I started after 9.30 as buses are cheaper by us then and supplied me with many cups of tea and I had a real laugh its ages since I was there but I still go and say Hi when I am in town.

Have a look on the High Street and ask in a shop you like the look of I picked BHF as I will buy things there and i got 25% off as some are full of rubish and smell of old ladies.

There always looking for help most advertise if u can spare a few hours in the week so do it you will like it

  5. All charity shops are grateful for any help, even if it's just temporary. Decide which one you want to work in and just go in and offer your services. Explain that it will be temporary. When I worked for Oxfam we often had students come in and help out just for the summer.  Charity shops always have vacancies, and it will look good on your CV to have voluntary work on it.  Good luck!

  6. I used to be an assistant manager in a charity shop, and yes we do take people on for the summer. we take on mainly students who only have the spare time for the summer period, and it really helps us out because alot of our older, regular volunteers take holidays.Previous experience is helpful as you'll learn things faster, but its not necessary as we train you up. Best thing to do is to just go and ask in your local charity shops, and the managers should have a chat with you and let you know if they need anyone.Good luck!

  7. Usually you just go to one of the shops and ask.

  8. Yes, I volunteered for Oxfam when I was at college - I just went in to the shop and asked - they are always looking for volunteers!

  9. It's best to go in and ask.

  10. i work in a charity shop and i have m.e/cfs so it helps get me out and about, I'm also eventually going to get a part time job when Ive finished the course I'm doing.

i think it's grate fun, and a good way of meeting and speaking to new people, and something good to put on your CV

i think the best way of going about it is going through a volunteer bureau and they also have a website it's www.do-it.org

so you look through the vaccines see which jobs you like the look of then either phone them up, or email them, then they contact the place where you want to volunteer. yeah you can go in and ask but i think it's a lot better to go through a volunteer bureau or something as you know what you'll be doing and what's expected of you before you start.

    good luck
