Question:

Volunteering in the summer?

I'm a rising 10th grader, 14 years old, and I'd like some ideas for where to volunteer this summer. The past two summers I've volunteered at the library for two days a week, three hours a day. I'm planning on continuing that, but I'd also like to do some more. I found a junior counselor position, and I'll probably apply, but I don't have much experience with being a counselor and they do it one week at a time, so there's no saying that I'll get more than one week if even that.

Any other ideas of opportunities that most towns have for teens volunteering?

  1. You could volunteer at your local hospital.  Teens frequently deliver flowers & mail to patients or let family & friends in the waiting room know the patient is back in their room.  Anything that doesn't involve medical care.

I'm sure the animal shelter would appreciate your help feeding, bathing and walking dogs.

  2. planting trees?

    fruit picking?

    charity shops!

you could help at old peoples homes, or care homes for disabled people - in the summer they are likely to go on day trips and will need help...

  3. See what's advertised for your town regarding volunteering at these web sites:

    VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org

    HandsOn Network, http://www.handsonnetwork.org/
