Volunteering opportunities near...?

Can anyone give me some ideas for volunteering in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area? Any that you have had good experience with or enjoy?

I currently have a list naming places like the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Waypoint, Planned Parenthood etc, but maybe there are others that need more help?

Any animal shelters come to mind (other than the Cedar Valley Humane Society?

Thanks!

  1. Ever think about visiting a senior citizen or one that is housebound?  They love to visit, watch T.V. with someone, help them write letters, look at photo alblums, going for a walk.

Look in the phone book for animal rescue; then make the call and see if they can use help.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters, boy is this needed to set good role models before the younger that we set.  NOWCAP can always use help and at schools, they are always looking for volunteers to help with Special Olympics and it is fun.  You get to travel and enjoy the games, expenses paid...........

Call the Boys and Girls Club..they can always use help.
